Our Canton FFA Trap Team held its first competition for the season on Saturday, September 5.. Canton hosted Lewis County C-1 at their Home Practice Range. Thank you to the Eagles for allowing the use their facilities. We were excited to have everyone come and use the new thrower recently installed by the Eagles.

The Canton FFA Chapter has been recognized in the 2026 National Chapter Award Program from the National FFA Organization. They were given a 3-star ranking. Truly a mark of their exceptionalism, less than 10% of chapters nationwide are given a ranking from the National FFA Organization.

The program recognizes outstanding FFA chapters from throughout the country that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. These chapters improve chapter operations using the National Quality FFA Chapter Standards and a Program of Activities that emphasizes

- Growing leaders,

- Building communities

- Strengthening agriculture.

Chapters are rewarded for providing educational experiences for the entire membership. Chapters will be recognized at the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo, Oct 21-24.

Canton FFA Ice Cream Social and FFA Meeting flyer. The event is Thursday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Canton High School Cafeteria. Open to all Canton FFA students and parents to learn more about the chapter and its activities. Attendance is mandatory for members interested in participating on the trapshooting team. The flyer features FFA emblems on ice cream cones on both sides.

Meets are Sept. 5 vs. Highland, Sept. 12 at Memphis/Schuyler, Sept. 19 at Community R-6, Sept. 26 at Lewis County, and Area Trap on Sept. 29. A parent meeting will be held Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Participants must be Canton FFA members in grades 9–12, provide their own 12- or 20-gauge shotgun, have a signed activity handbook, complete Hunter Education and have a valid Hunter ID. Students are responsible for practice ammunition; competition ammunition is provided. No reloaded shells are allowed. Long pants, closed-toed shoes, hearing protection, and eye protection are required. Two practice rounds must be completed before the first event.

The Canton R-V School District is accepting sealed bids for snow removal services for the 2026–2027 winter season.

Bid specifications may be obtained from the Canton R-V Central Office, 200 N. 4th Street, Canton, Missouri, or by calling 573-288-5216 during regular business hours.

Sealed bids must be received by August 31, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. and clearly marked "Snow Removal Bid – 2026–2027."

The Canton R-V School District reserves the right to reject any or all bids, waive informalities, and accept the bid deemed to be in the best interest of the District.

School safety is something we take seriously at Canton R-V.

On July 29, 2026, Canton R-V hosted several area law enforcement agencies on campus for coordinated active threat training. Agencies represented included the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, Canton Police Department, LaGrange Police Department, and Palmyra Police Department.

During the training, participants reviewed the district’s current safety action plan, discussed building-specific procedures with School Resource Officer Sergeant Devon Willis of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, and worked through multiple safety response scenarios.

We are grateful for the strong partnership we have with local and regional law enforcement. Their willingness to train, plan, and prepare alongside our district helps strengthen our ability to respond if a crisis ever occurs.

While we hope these plans are never needed, we believe preparation matters. Keeping students, staff, and visitors safe requires communication, collaboration, and continued practice.

Thank you to each agency and officer who gave their time to support Canton R-V and our school community.

Canton R-V School District Tax Rate Hearing Notice for the 2026–27 fiscal year. The notice announces a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. on August 10, 2026, in Canton, Missouri, where citizens may comment on the proposed tax rate before it is adopted. A table compares 2026–27 and 2025–26 assessed valuations, showing total assessed valuation increasing from $54,288,910 to $55,541,274. Proposed tax rates are $3.5257 for Incidental, $0.5500 for Debt Service, and $0.0000 for Teacher and Capital Projects, for a total proposed tax rate of $4.0757 per $100 of assessed valuation. The notice also reports $57,347 in new operating revenue, $32,148 from new construction and improvements, $25,199 from reassessment, and 1.33% new revenue from reassessment. The notice is signed by the Canton R-V Board of Education, with Board President Susan Biggerstaff and Board Secretary Lacy Spurgeon.

Nicole joins this leadership role after serving as a paraprofessional at Canton Elementary, where her passion for working with children and her caring approach made a positive impact on students and families alike.
